Challah French Toast

Buttermilk Challah French Toast

Ingredients

8 slices challah

2 Follow Your Heart “Eggs”

3/4 cup buttermilk (1 tbs apple cider vinegar + 3/4 cup soymilk)

2 tbs cinnamon

2 tbs sugar

1/2 tsp clove

1/2 tsp nutmeg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tbs rum

Earth Balance butter

Canola oil
Store-bought challah has eggs so you will need to make your own or use another kind.

In a 3/4 cup measuring cup, add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to the bottom and fill the rest up with plain, unsweetend soy milk. Stir with a toothpick and let sit for at least 5 minutes. This is your buttermilk.

Make Follow Your Heart eggs according to package instructions.

Follow Your Heart “egg” , whisked and ready to go!
Whisk buttermilk, butter, spices, vanilla and  liqueur into the eggs.

Pour batter into a shallow tray and soak 1/2 inch slices of challah for about 5 minutes on each side and feel free to adjust the time a little based on stregnth of bread. 

Don’t make your slices as thick as I did or you will need to soak for much longer!
Fry bread for about three to four minutes on each side on medium heat in a mixture of butter and oil. (Add lots more oil to make it deep-fried french toast!)

Serve with any topping such as honey (bee free honee), berries, powdered sugar, maple syrup,newtella,

chocolate sauce …
