French Toast Grilled Cheese

Before you say “ew”, the ‘cheese’ in this recipe is cream cheese, okay?

Ingredients

Two slices of french-toast-able (sturdy) bread

1 cup plain unsweetened soymilk

1 Follow Your Heart Egg, prepared

Sugar and cinnamon to taste

Dairy free cream cheese such as Go Veggie (careful, not all Go Veggie products are vegan)

Newtella such as Justin’s chocolate hazelnut butter (careful, it’s addictive)

Dairy free butter such as Earth Balance

 

In a super shallow and wide bowl, or even a plate with  high edges, mix milk, egg, sugar and cinnamon. Melt butter in a pan on medium. Put both slices of bread one at a time down in bowl, count to 10, flip, count to 10, remove. Fry both slices of bread in pan on one side for about 3 minutes.


Flip and remove pan from heat immediately. Use a butter knife to spread newtella on the already cooked side of one slice of bread and then cream cheese on the already cooked side of the other slice of bread. You will have to be very slow and gentle so you don’t break the bread and you may even want to soften the newtella and cream cheese first.

Close the sandwich and fry on each side for about 3 minutes or until you get a nice golden crust on the outside. Serve immediately.
